WHEREAS, in 2014, the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department and Department of Public Safety Communications raised money to support members of the community with muscular dystrophy through the Fill the Boot Campaign; and
WHEREAS, held over Labor Day weekend, the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department Fill the Boot Campaign collected $488,688.35 to benefit the Greater Washington Muscular Dystrophy Association; and
WHEREAS, the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department’s collected donations will help fund the annual Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) summer camp, the MDA Clinic, medical goods for families in need, muscular dystrophy research, support groups, and occupational therapy and training; and
WHEREAS, 2014 marks the 60th anniversary of the partnership between the MDA and the International Association of Fire Fighters; the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department has participated in the Fill the Boot Campaign for more than 30 years; and
WHEREAS, in seven of the past 10 years, Fairfax County has collected the highest amount of donations in the United States and Canada for the Fill the Boot Campaign, and the county consistently ranks among the top five highest-collecting localities; and
WHEREAS, the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department Fill the Boot Campaign succeeded thanks to assistance and generous donations from local businesses, civic and service organizations, and the citizens of and visitors to Fairfax County; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Fairfax County Fill the Boot Campaign for supporting members of the community with muscular dystrophy; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare copies of this resolution for presentation to the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department and Department of Public Safety Communications as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for the Fairfax County Fill the Boot Campaign’s contributions to the Fairfax community.
