Commending the Hillsville Woman's Club.

WHEREAS, in 2014, the Hillsville Woman’s Club proudly celebrated its 75th anniversary of service to the people of Carroll County and the surrounding communities; and

WHEREAS, the Hillsville Woman’s Club, which is part of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs, has been involved in many community projects since the club was founded in 1939; the group focuses on improving the lives of the people around them; and

WHEREAS, one annual effort of the Hillsville Woman’s Club is awarding a $250 college scholarship to a senior at Carroll County High School who plans to study art or music; promoting arts, crafts, and music is one of the goals of the club; and

WHEREAS, another project of the Hillsville Woman’s Club is working for the betterment of the town of Hillsville through membership in the Friends of Hillsville organization; on the state level, club members support the effort to find the causes of breast cancer and a cure for the disease; and

WHEREAS, yard sales are one fundraising project of the Hillsville Woman’s Club; the group holds its sales at the home of charter member Love Cox; two other longtime members are Agnes Long and Helen McGrady; and

WHEREAS, sponsoring apple and nut sales in the fall and participating in the Fancy Gap Bazaar also are examples of some of the Hillsville Woman’s Club’s activities and outreach efforts; and

WHEREAS, on November 1, 2014, the woman’s club celebrated 75 years of helping the community with a social at the Hale-Wilkinson-Carter Home in Hillsville, which was open to all; and

WHEREAS, in addition to honoring the club’s history and early service projects, one of which was providing funding for the local library, the group also wants to attract new members to help keep the Hillsville Woman’s Club healthy and vibrant in the future; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Hillsville Woman’s Club for its 75 years of work on behalf of Carroll County and the surrounding area; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Brenda Lindsey, president of the Hillsville Woman’s Club, as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration and respect for the club’s long tradition of work and service and best wishes for the future.
