WHEREAS, Patsy Godley of Spotsylvania used her talents and heartfelt conviction that growing older is a reason to be optimistic to win the 2014 Ms. Senior America pageant; and

WHEREAS, Patsy Godley is well-known in the Fredericksburg area as the female singer in the band Patsy & the Country Classics; at the pageant she sang a Patsy Cline standard, “Leavin’ on Your Mind”; and

WHEREAS, the native of Atlanta has loved to sing her entire life; Patsy Godley and her husband, Callis, formed the band just a few years ago, reinforcing her enjoyment of performing in front of a live audience; and

WHEREAS, at the Ms. Senior America pageant, which was held in Atlantic City, New Jersey, Patsy Godley competed against 41 other people; the competition included interviews, a talent segment, and an evening gown competition, and each woman also had to discuss her life philosophy; and

WHEREAS, Patsy Godley, who says that her life has been a wonderful adventure, is optimistic that it will continue to be fulfilling; she will bring enthusiasm and encouragement to many people in her role as Ms. Senior America 2014; and

WHEREAS, the Ms. Senior America pageant is open to women 60 and older; its goal is to draw attention to the achievements of seniors, to inspire women to utilize their full potential, and to share a positive outlook with others; and

WHEREAS, Patsy Godley, who has two grown children, will juggle an already busy schedule in her role as Ms. Senior America 2014; she works for a defense contractor in Dumfries, is a church worship leader, and also takes part in a women’s ministry; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Patsy Godley for being named Ms. Senior America 2014 and serving as an outstanding role model for all women; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Patsy Godley as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect and congratulations for her exceptional accomplishments.
