2015 SESSION
WHEREAS, George E. Nolley, a respected educator and school administrator who ably served as the superintendent of Campbell County Public Schools for three decades, died on October 16, 2014; and
WHEREAS, a native of West Virginia, George Nolley earned a bachelor’s degree from Concord University and a master’s degree from Marshall University; and
WHEREAS, George Nolley began his career as an educator in West Virginia; he also taught in Roanoke before becoming the principal of Mary Hunter Elementary School and J. D. Bassett High School, both in Bassett; and
WHEREAS, after earning a doctorate from the University of Virginia, George Nolley served as an associate superintendent in Montgomery County; he became the superintendent of Campbell County Public Schools in 1979; and
WHEREAS, a supportive and active leader, George Nolley upheld the highest standards of accountability, character, and academic excellence among his principals and teachers; as one of the longest-serving superintendents in the Commonwealth, he inspired generations of educators, administrators, and students; and
WHEREAS, after his well-earned retirement as superintendent in 2009, George Nolley continued to serve the community as a mentor and supervisor for student teachers throughout Central and Southwest Virginia; and
WHEREAS, George Nolley enjoyed fellowship and worship with the community as a member of Rustburg United Methodist Church; and
WHEREAS, George Nolley will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his children, George and Todd, and their families and numerous other family members, friends, and former students; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of George E. Nolley, a devoted educator and school administrator in Lynchburg; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of George E. Nolley as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
