15100815DWHEREAS, the Kettle Run High School marching band was awarded a top-ranked Superior rating for 2014 at the Virginia Band and Orchestra Directors Association marching assessment held in October; and
WHEREAS, the talented musicians from the Nokesville high school in Fauquier County are no strangers to performance excellence; since the school opened in 2008, the Kettle Run High School marching band has received six Superior ratings; and
WHEREAS, a Superior designation means that a marching band has received “superior” ratings from the seven people who are acting as adjudicators at the Virginia Band and Orchestra Directors Association assessment; and
WHEREAS, the theme for the Kettle Run marching band’s 2014 season was “Apollo 13,” and the music and the choreography spurred on the band as it rehearsed; the show’s special effects included a simulated moon landing using high-tech props; and
WHEREAS, the Kettle Run High School marching band members and Matt Yonkey, director of bands at the school, were focused on one goal for the 2014 season: ensuring that the judges would award the band the greatly desired Superior rating—nothing less would do—and they succeeded; and
WHEREAS, throughout the fall, the Kettle Run High School marching band garnered top marks at competitions; it won first place at the Woodbridge Invitational in the Class AAAA division, the Loudoun Valley Invitational, the Millbrook High School Invitational in the Carolina class, and the Stafford Invitational; and
WHEREAS, the Kettle Run High School marching band is a five-time Virginia Honor Band; the strong support from parents, faculty and staff, and students has helped propel the marching band to success; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Kettle Run High School marching band for receiving a Superior rating at the Virginia Band and Orchestra Directors Association 2014 marching assessment; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Matt Yonkey, director of bands, as an expression of the General Assembly’s congratulations and admiration for the outstanding achievements of the Kettle Run High School marching band.
