2015 SESSION
15100814DWHEREAS, the Fauquier High School marching band won the 2014 USBands Virginia Open Class Championship at the state competition held on October 25 in Virginia Beach; and
WHEREAS, it was the fifth state championship for the Falcons; the band from Warrenton won in the open class division for the first time in 2014, which is the contest’s highest level of competition; and
WHEREAS, at the statewide meeting, the Fauquier Falcon band won in five categories: best music, best marching, best effect, best color guard, and best percussion; the Falcons chose “Hansel and Gretel” for its competition theme; and
WHEREAS, the Fauquier High School marching band, which is led by Andrew Paul, band and orchestra teacher at the school, has won four state titles in the last 10 years; he credits the band’s winning efforts to the friendships formed among band members and their hard work throughout the marching band season; and
WHEREAS, the talented Falcon marching band won other honors from USBands in the fall of 2014 while competing in the Class II open division: second place at the USBands Northern Virginia Regional competition, first place at the Chopticon High School contest, and first place at a competition at James Wood High School; and
WHEREAS, the musicians’ hard work over many months paid off as the Fauquier High School Falcon marching band admirably represented the Commonwealth at the USBands National Championship on November 15 in New Jersey; and
WHEREAS, the Falcon marching band’s success is due to the talent and dedication shown by the entire band, the work of band director Andrew Paul, and the support the band received from parents, staff, and students at Fauquier High School; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Fauquier High School marching band for winning the 2014 USBands Virginia Open Class Championship; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Andrew Paul, band and orchestra teacher at Fauquier High School, as an expression of the General Assembly’s congratulations and admiration for its stellar achievement.
