HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 543
Commending the Liberty High School marching band.

WHEREAS, the Liberty High School marching band from Bealeton received the highest possible rating of Superior at the Virginia Band and Orchestra Directors Association 2014 marching band assessment held in October; and

WHEREAS, some students have been members of the Liberty Eagles marching band for their entire high school career, pursuing the sought-after Superior designation for four years; finally achieving it was a great feeling for many of the dedicated musicians; and

WHEREAS, Liberty High School’s Superior designation means that the Fauquier County high school marching band received Superior ratings from the seven adjudicators at the Virginia Band and Orchestra Directors Association annual assessment; and

WHEREAS, the Liberty High School marching band chose “Cirque du Soleil” as its show theme for 2014; the hardworking group took part in several band competitions, receiving second place in two class AA contests, the North Stafford Invitational and the Millbrook Invitational; and

WHEREAS, a precision-oriented performing ensemble, the Marching Eagles of Liberty High School have entertained audiences throughout the Commonwealth; the group also has performed at Walt Disney World and at Hersheypark; and

WHEREAS, Patrick Neidich, band director for Liberty High School and school division lead music teacher, works with groups of band members throughout the band season to help them achieve individual goals; and

WHEREAS, a career in music—as music educators or band directors—is a goal of some members of the Liberty High School Eagles marching band; the young men and women all have learned valuable skills and developed a strong work ethic; and

WHEREAS, enthusiastic support from parents, faculty and staff, students, and the community has helped propel the Liberty High School marching band to its many successes and appearances; its talented musicians with their unique shows appeal to many audiences; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Liberty High School marching band for receiving a Superior rating at the Virginia Band and Orchestra Directors Association 2014 marching band assessment; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Patrick Neidich, band director at Liberty High School and school division lead music teacher, as an expression of the General Assembly’s congratulations and admiration for the band’s outstanding achievements.
