15101498DWHEREAS, Ruth Aileen Hancock, a former university staff member and a devoted servant to the Emory and Washington County communities, died on May 10, 2003; and
WHEREAS, a native of Hastings, Nebraska, Ruth Hancock was raised in Rolla, Missouri; she graduated from the Maryland General Hospital School of Nursing and Emory & Henry College; and
WHEREAS, Ruth Hancock served members of the Emory & Henry College community for 12 years as the system operator for the college’s administrative computer; and
WHEREAS, in 1996, Ruth Hancock served the Commonwealth as a presidential elector, and from 1996 to 2000, she served as a member of the Virginia Board of Counseling; and
WHEREAS, Ruth Hancock also volunteered her time and wise leadership with the United Methodist Church, the Boy Scouts of America, Alpha Phi Omega, and local Republican Party organizations; she received many awards and accolades for her work; and
WHEREAS, together with her husband, Ray, Ruth Hancock left a legacy of outstanding service to the community; and
WHEREAS, Ruth Hancock is missed and fondly remembered by her husband, Ray; sons, Dale and Clark, and their families; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Ruth Aileen Hancock, an active member of the Emory and Washington County communities; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Ruth Aileen Hancock as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for her memory.
