Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding a section numbered 8.01-226.11:1 as follows:

§ 8.01-226.11:1. Immunity of sheriff for actions of deputy.

A. For purposes of this section, "sheriff" shall not include deputy sheriffs and such other persons designated in § 15.2-1603.

B. A sheriff shall not be liable for civil damages resulting from any act or omission by a deputy sheriff in the performance of his duties as a deputy sheriff.
