2014 SPECIAL SESSION I
14200393DWHEREAS, in 2014, the Community Action Partnership, a national nonprofit organization based in Washington, D.C., celebrates 50 years of providing member agencies with the tools and training to build stronger communities and help those in need; and
WHEREAS, representing 1,100 community action agencies throughout the United States, the Community Action Partnership helps over 17 million Americans annually by supporting a variety of programs and initiatives, including job training, weatherization, housing assistance, food banks, and financial education; and
WHEREAS, as part of the Rooting Out Poverty campaign, which offers specific recommendations to help children, families, and senior citizens achieve financial security, the Community Action Partnership initiated the National Symposium on Poverty and Economic Security in 2007; and
WHEREAS, in conjunction with the Ford Foundation, the Community Action Partnership also began the Racial Equity and Economic Security project to study strategies on reducing poverty; and
WHEREAS, to meet the needs of its member agencies, the Community Action Partnership sponsors an annual convention, publishes a quarterly magazine and a weekly electronic newsletter, and offers training and technical assistance programs; and
WHEREAS, the Community Action Partnership works to ensure the highest standards among member agencies, sponsoring the Pathways to Excellence certification program for agencies and the Certified Community Action Professional training program for individuals; and
WHEREAS, the Community Action Partnership will commemorate its 50th anniversary and celebrate the achievements of past and present members in August 2014 at its annual convention in Washington, D.C.; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Community Action Partnership on the occasion of its 50th anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Robert Goldsmith of Community Action Partnership Region 3 as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for the organization’s mission to strengthen communities and help those in need.
