2014 SESSION
HB 176 Tow truck drivers; registration after conviction of violent crimes.
Introduced by: Peter F. Farrell | all patrons ... notes | add to my profiles | history
SUMMARY AS PASSED HOUSE:
Tow truck drivers; violent crimes. Creates an exception to current law prohibiting the registration as a tow truck driver of any person convicted of a violent crime. The bill grandfathers those that already held a tow truck driver authorization under the former Board of Towing and Recovery Operators and who have not committed a subsequent violent crime. The bill contains an emergency clause. This bill is identical to SB 8.
SUMMARY AS INTRODUCED:
Towing and recovery operator; requirements for certification. Provides that no registration as a towing and recovery operator may be issued to any person who has been convicted of a violent crime as defined in subsection C of § 17.1-805 of the Code of Virginia within fifteen years of the date of filing of the application for registration or unless the person has had his civil rights restored by the Governor or other appropriate authority prior to the date of application. Currently any person convicted of a violent crime as defined in subsection C of § 17.1-805 may not be issued a registration.
