2014 SESSION
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That §§ 3 and 4 of Chapter 730 of the Acts of Assembly of 2013 are amended and reenacted as follows:
§ 3. There shall be elected at the May general election of
2014, and every four years thereafter, from the qualified voters of the
town, one elector of the town who shall be designated the mayor and six
electors who shall be designated the councilmen. However, beginning with the
election to be held at the May general election in 2014, and every four years
thereafter, there shall be elected a mayor and three councilmen. They shall
qualify by taking the oath prescribed by law before entering upon the duties of
their offices on the first day of July after their election. They shall hold
said offices for the term of four years until their successors are elected and
qualified, unless sooner removed. The mayor and councilmen holding office as of
the effective date of this charter shall continue in office until their
successors enter upon the duties of their offices as herein specified.
§ 4. The mayor and councilmen shall be the council of the
town. The council shall be vested with the corporate powers of the town. A
quorum for the transaction of business shall be four three
council members.
2. That an emergency exists and this act is in force from its passage.
