SUMMARY AS INTRODUCED:
Inmates; eligibility for medical assistance. Provides that a person who is in the custody of a state or local correctional facility and who meets the criteria for eligibility for services under the state plan for medical assistance shall remain eligible for medical assistance while he is confined, but that no services under the state plan for medical assistance shall be furnished unless federal financial participation is available for the cost of the services provided. This bill also provides that such person shall be eligible for services under the state plan for medical assistance immediately upon release from a state or local correction facility and that, to the extent permitted by federal law, the time during which the person is confined to a state or local correction facility shall not be included in any calculation of when the person's eligibility for medical assistance shall need to be recertified.
