Celebrating the life of Brenna Jean Vorhis.

WHEREAS, Brenna Jean Vorhis, a graduate student at the College of William and Mary whose sense of humor, loyalty, intelligence, and enthusiasm enriched the lives of all with whom she came in contact, died on January 10, 2013; and

WHEREAS, a graduate of Deep Run High School where she made many friends, Brenna Vorhis was an outstanding student known for her writing ability and musical talent; she participated in the marching band and played flute and piccolo for the Richmond Symphony Youth Orchestra; and

WHEREAS, passionate about the environment, civic responsibility, and the political process, Brenna Vorhis kept friends and family informed about the latest political news and decided to major in government; she was thrilled when she was accepted early decision to the College of William and Mary; and

WHEREAS, during 2011, Brenna Vorhis gained invaluable, firsthand experience into the political process as she ably served as an intern and community liaison for Senator John Miller, handling constituent matters and working professionally alongside General Assembly members and legislative staff; and

WHEREAS, Brenna Vorhis was accepted into the Thomas Jefferson Program in Public Policy at the College of William and Mary and was working towards a master’s degree in public policy with the idea of one day running for office herself; and

WHEREAS, Brenna Vorhis excelled in her studies and served as a graduate assistant in the Office of Economic Development, where her valuable contributions earned her the Outstanding Graduate Assistantship Award in 2012; and

WHEREAS, a loyal and funny friend, Brenna Vorhis made many friends at the College of William and Mary and greatly enjoyed the time spent with her hallmates in Hunt Hall; and

WHEREAS, Brenna Vorhis loved her cat, Heath; playing video games; and old movies; she had once considered a career in film preservation; and

WHEREAS, Brenna Vorhis will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by her mother, Patricia; father, Richard; stepmother, Sarah; brother, Kevin; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of Virginia hereby note with great sadness the loss of a dynamic young Virginian, Brenna Jean Vorhis; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Brenna Jean Vorhis as an expression of the Senate of Virginia’s respect for her memory.
