Celebrating the life of Delbert Ralph Snyder.

WHEREAS, Delbert Ralph Snyder, a respected Professional Golfers’ Association of America golf instructor and the “ambassador of golf” at the Golden Horseshoe Golf Club in Williamsburg, died on January 8, 2013; and

WHEREAS, a native of Hot Springs, Delbert Snyder began golfing at the age of eight; he assisted other golfers as a caddy at the Homestead resort in Hot Springs and later trained at the Greenbrier resort in West Virginia; and

WHEREAS, Delbert Snyder honorably served his country as a member of the United States Army Corps of Engineers in Iceland; after his military service, Delbert Snyder worked at the Greenbrier and further honed his skills as a player and coach under the resort’s expert staff; and

WHEREAS, Delbert Snyder then earned the position of head golf professional at the Golden Horseshoe Golf Club and became one of the resort’s most respected and requested golf teachers; he was admired for his clear, comprehensive teaching methods; and

WHEREAS, contributing greatly to Williamsburg’s reputation as a premier golf destination, Delbert Snyder instructed presidents, vice presidents, ambassadors, heads of state, dignitaries, corporate chief executive officers, Professional Golfers’ Association of America (PGA) tour players, and recreational golfers; and

WHEREAS, in addition to being an exemplary instructor, Delbert Snyder was an accomplished player who won numerous events; he became the oldest player to win the PGA Mid-Atlantic Section championship in 1984; and

WHEREAS, Delbert Snyder was named as the PGA 1999 Mid-Atlantic Teacher of the Year, one of Golf Magazine’s top teachers in the 2005 - 2006 season, and one of the top golf instructors in the country by Golf Digest; and

WHEREAS, Delbert Snyder will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife, Sandy; daughters, Debbie and Barbara, and their families; and many other family members, friends, and fellow golfers; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Delbert Ralph Snyder, a renowned golf professional and friend to many in the Williamsburg area; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Delbert Ralph Snyder as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
