SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 437
Commending Nancy Dillon.

WHEREAS, Nancy Dillon, a devoted horseback riding instructor in Philomont, has served the youth of the Loudoun County community for more than 47 years; and

WHEREAS, raised on her father’s farm near Purcellville, Nancy Dillon learned to break and ride ponies at an early age; she rode on her first fox hunt when she was eight years old; and

WHEREAS, in the 1960s, Nancy Dillon’s children followed in her footsteps, taking up riding at a young age; she began giving lessons to members of the community when other parents expressed an interest in having their own children learn the joys of horseback riding; and

WHEREAS, from her stables at Chimney Hill Farm, Nancy Dillon today teaches dozens of students everything there is to know about horseback riding; her students learn basic skills, such as washing and caring for the horses, as well as cross-country riding, showing, and fox hunting; and

WHEREAS, Nancy Dillon works long hours to care for her horses and to ensure that her students receive the best possible education; she is renowned as an honest, patient, and highly knowledgeable teacher; and

WHEREAS, as a mentor to her students, Nancy Dillon also imparts critical life lessons; she emphasizes the importance of responsibility, neatness of dress, cooperation, respect, and good manners; and

WHEREAS, over the course of her career, Nancy Dillon has had a positive influence on more than 1,000 young people and has passed on her unfailing passion for equestrianism and the outdoors to countless girls and boys; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Nancy Dillon on her more than 47 years of dedicated service to the community as a horseback riding instructor; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Nancy Dillon as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for her commitment to the youth of Loudoun County.
