SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 364
Commending state and local law-enforcement agencies for their outstanding service during the 2012 Presidential campaign.

WHEREAS, state and local law-enforcement agencies are faced with many challenges and dangerous situations each day; and

WHEREAS, these challenges were magnified and multiplied during the 2012 Presidential campaign due to frequent visits of the presidential candidates and their surrogates to Virginia; and

WHEREAS, the cost of providing protection and security to the presidential candidates and their surrogates and the crowd control of thousands of people strained state and local budgets and resources for law-enforcement agencies, and such funds have not been reimbursed; and

WHEREAS, Virginia’s law-enforcement officers, notably among the finest in the nation, have been commended for their professionalism and dedicated service; and

WHEREAS, state and local law-enforcement agencies, working collaboratively with the Secret Service, were required to increase officer hours and incurred substantial office expenses to provide security for campaign-related events; and

WHEREAS, state and local law-enforcement agencies exceeded their regular duties to accommodate and help coordinate logistics and security during the 2012 Presidential campaign in a difficult economy; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend state and local law-enforcement agencies for their outstanding service during the 2012 Presidential campaign; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the presidents of the Virginia Municipal League and the Virginia Association of Counties, the Virginia Sheriffs’ Association, the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police, and the Superintendent of the Department of State Police, requesting that they further disseminate copies of this resolution to their respective constituents in order that they may be apprised of the sincere appreciation of the General Assembly for their dedicated service to the Commonwealth.
