WHEREAS, Myron Parsek Erkiletian, a man whose passion for excellence and generous heart guided him in his endeavors as a Northern Virginia real estate developer and dedicated community supporter, died on October 21, 2012; and
WHEREAS, Myron “Mike” Parsek Erkiletian, the son of Parsek and Lusaber “Lucy” Erkiletian of Armenian heritage who migrated from Turkey, was born in Chicago and earned a bachelor’s degree from Purdue University and master’s degree in business administration from Columbia University; and
WHEREAS, after completing his schooling, Mike Erkiletian moved to the Washington Metropolitan Area and embarked on a career in real estate development, with one of his first positions as an assistant project manager at the Watergate complex; and
WHEREAS, Mike Erkiletian went on to establish his own successful real estate development company; more than 40 years later, it continues to operate under his name and to responsibly develop award-winning commercial and residential projects; and
WHEREAS, known for his commitment to his word and dedication to the construction of projects that fit seamlessly into the surrounding environment, Mike Erkiletian forged strong business relationships and developed a reputation for quality and integrity; and
WHEREAS, Mike Erkiletian and his projects received honors that ranged from the 1972 Builder of the Year recognition from the Home Builders Association of Virginia to a 2003 Architectural Woodwork Institute Award of Excellence to a 2011 Alexandria Beautification Award; and
WHEREAS, a hardworking businessman, Mike Erkiletian also gave of his time and talents to a wide array of worthy endeavors, generously contributing to a host of charitable organizations and serving as an appreciative and knowledgeable patron of the arts; and
WHEREAS, Mike Erkiletian provided thoughtful insight and guidance to George Mason University as a member of the board of visitors from 1985 to 1990, as a member of the State Water Control Board from 2003 to 2007, and to numerous other boards and organizations; and
WHEREAS, the son of immigrants, Mike Erkiletian remained proud of his heritage, taking an active role in the Armenian community and founding and supporting a kindergarten and soup kitchen in Dilijan, Armenia, in honor of his mother; and
WHEREAS, Mike Erkiletian also enjoyed bird hunting, skiing, attending the opera, studying history, and traveling; he pursued his interests with the same passion he gave to his work and community endeavors; and
WHEREAS, today, Mike Erkiletian’s legacy lives on in the buildings he developed that provide welcoming spaces for residents and businesses and in the hearts and souls of those whose lives he touched with his unflagging devotion and thoughtfulness; and
WHEREAS, a larger-than-life figure, Mike Erkiletian will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his children, Stefanie, Michael, Alex, Mihran, and Samuel, and their families; stepchildren, Jennifer, Leslie, Kim, Aaron, and Jessica, and their families; sisters, Margaret Carlson, Beatrice Coppini, Jacqui Goodrich, and their families; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of an admired Virginian, Myron Parsek Erkiletian; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Myron Parsek Erkiletian as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
