2013 SESSION
13103607DWHEREAS, Lee Randolph Harrison, the Commonwealth’s attorney for Amelia County, is commended for his heroic actions to prevent an inmate awaiting trial from escaping from the Amelia County Courthouse; and
WHEREAS, on July 5, 2012, Lee Harrison was walking down a hallway at the Amelia County Courthouse when he saw an inmate knock a deputy into the hall with leg irons and the inmate leave the holding cell; and
WHEREAS, Lee Harrison realized the gravity of the situation and the importance of stopping the inmate, and he grabbed the inmate in a bear hug in an attempt to stop him; and
WHEREAS, despite being hit in the head with leg irons, Lee Harrison retained his hold on the inmate; and
WHEREAS, another bystander joined Lee Harrison and they managed to bring the inmate down to the floor of a court waiting room, where law-enforcement personnel from the Sheriff’s Office arrived to help subdue the individual; and
WHEREAS, Lee Harrison was treated at a local hospital for his injuries and released; and
WHEREAS, Lee Harrison’s courageous actions prevented the deputy from suffering serious injury or death and the dangerous inmate from escaping; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Lee Randolph Harrison for his heroic actions to prevent an inmate from escaping from the Amelia County Courthouse; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Lee Randolph Harrison as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration and gratitude for his courage.
