2013 SESSION
WHEREAS, Thomas E. Poore is commended for his heroic actions to prevent an inmate awaiting trial from escaping from the Amelia County Courthouse; and
WHEREAS, on July 5, 2012, Thomas Poore, an Amelia County maintenance worker, came out of the Amelia County Clerk of the Circuit Court’s Office and saw a man striking a deputy with leg irons; and
WHEREAS, the deputy, who was being brutally assaulted and received numerous blows to the head, fell to the ground; and
WHEREAS, Thomas Poore realized the gravity of the situation and took action, joining another bystander in grabbing the inmate in a bear hug; and
WHEREAS, Thomas Poore and the other bystander managed to bring the inmate down to the floor of a court waiting room, where law-enforcement personnel from the Sheriff’s Office arrived to help subdue the individual; and
WHEREAS, Thomas Poore was treated at a local hospital for his injuries and released; and
WHEREAS, Thomas Poore’s courageous actions prevented the deputy from suffering serious injury or death and the dangerous inmate from escaping from the courthouse; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Thomas E. Poore for his heroic actions to prevent an inmate from escaping from the Amelia County Courthouse; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Thomas E. Poore as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration and gratitude for his bravery.
