SENATE BILL NO. 940 AMENDMENT IN THE NATURE OF A SUBSTITUTE (Proposed by the Senate Committee on Finance on January 29, 2013) (Patrons Prior to Substitute--Senators Stuart and Deeds [SB 1240]) A BILL to amend the Code of Virginia by adding a section numbered 22.1-279.10, relating to school resource officers.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1.  That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding a section numbered 22.1-279.10 as follows:

§ 22.1-279.10. Every school to have at least one school resource officer.

A. Each school board, in coordination with the local law-enforcement agency, shall provide at least one school resource officer as defined in § 9.1-101 for every elementary, middle, and high school within the district.

B. Any costs associated with the provisions of this section shall be paid out of the general appropriation act and not by any locality or school board.

2.  That the provisions of this act shall not become effective unless an appropriation of general funds effectuating the purposes of this act is included in a general appropriation act passed by the 2013 Session of the General Assembly, which becomes law.
