Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1.  That § 3.2 of Chapter 150 of the Acts of Assembly of 1968 is amended and reenacted as follows:

§ 3.2. General law to control registration, nominations and elections Registration, nominations and elections of candidates for council.

No primary elections shall be held for nomination of candidates for the office of councilman. All candidates for the office of councilman shall file their notice of candidacy and be nominated only by petition in the manner prescribed by the general laws of the Commonwealth. Candidates for council shall not be identified on the ballot by political affiliation.

Unless otherwise provided in this charter, registration, nominations and elections held under this charter shall be in accordance with the general laws of the Commonwealth.
