HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 97
Celebrating the life of John Wesley Holmes.

 

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, January 11, 2013

 

WHEREAS, John Wesley Holmes, a devout and hard-working member of the Martinsville community, died on November 11, 2012; and

WHEREAS, born on March 22, 1935, to Tom and Ethel Holmes, John Holmes was one of a plentiful 14-child household; and

WHEREAS, John Holmes was a loyal employee at American Furniture Company, now known as American of Martinsville, where he retired after more than 30 years of diligent work; and

WHEREAS, John Holmes enjoyed fellowship and worship while serving as a deacon at the People’s Church of the Living God in Bassett; and

WHEREAS, John Holmes is survived and dearly remembered by Doris Eastridge Holmes, his wife of 56 years; two brothers and five sisters; one son and two daughters; five grandchildren and two step-grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, the long branches of John Holmes’ family tree will ensure that his legacy is celebrated in Martinsville and throughout Southwest Virginia for generations to come; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of a productive member of the Martinsville community, John Wesley Holmes; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of John Wesley Holmes as an expression of the House of Delegates’ respect for his memory.
