HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 92 Offered January 9, 2013 Prefiled December 20, 2012 Commending Emma Buchanan. ---------- Patron-- O'Quinn ----------

WHEREAS, Emma Buchanan, a sophomore at Patrick Henry High School in Glade Spring and 2011 - 2012 National Student Ambassador for the Fuel Up to Play 60 program, has helped increase student awareness about living healthy lifestyles; and

WHEREAS, Fuel Up to Play 60, founded by the National Dairy Council and the National Football League in collaboration with the United States Department of Agriculture, helps students make small changes in their lifestyles that result in healthier living; and

WHEREAS, as a National Student Ambassador, Emma Buchanan brought students together to win numerous Fuel Up to Play 60 challenges, which showcase how students and schools eat healthy and get active; and

WHEREAS, for one challenge, Emma Buchanan and her friends from Glade Spring Middle School and Patrick Henry High School created a song and video that captured first place in the national competition; and

WHEREAS, the win resulted in a visit to Patrick Henry High School from National Football League star and former New Orleans Saints running back Deuce McAllister, who spoke about the Fuel Up to Play 60 program and praised Emma Buchanan for her hard work; and

WHEREAS, Emma Buchanan, in her role as a National Student Ambassador for the Fuel Up to Play 60 program, also spoke to audiences across the nation, sharing the importance of healthy eating and exercise; and

WHEREAS, an enthusiastic leader, Emma Buchanan worked diligently during her tenure as a National Student Ambassador for the Fuel Up to Play 60 program to promote healthy lifestyles for students; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Emma Buchanan hereby be commended for her work as a National Student Ambassador for the Fuel Up to Play 60 program; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Emma Buchanan as an expression of the House of Delegates’ admiration for her hard work and commitment to helping her fellow students lead healthy lives.
