Commending the Galax High School baseball team.

WHEREAS, the Galax High School baseball team capped a winning season by taking home the 2012 Virginia High School League Group A, Division 1 state championship title; and

WHEREAS, the Galax High School baseball team defeated Holston High School in the Region C championship game to win the regional title and then triumphed over Clintwood High School and Rappahannock High School to advance to the state championship game; and

WHEREAS, at the state title match held before an enthusiastic crowd at Radford University on June 9, 2012, the Galax Maroon Tide faced rival Holston High School again; and

WHEREAS, the Galax High School baseball team came out strong, building a 6 - 0 lead in the first four innings, but the Holston Cavaliers came back with a fierce rally; and

WHEREAS, Galax High School’s designated hitter, Bryant Cox, hit an RBI that drove Travis Garvey to home plate to make the winning run, and then relief pitcher Austin Pack held off the Cavaliers in the seventh to secure the Maroon Tide’s first state championship title in baseball; and

WHEREAS, the Maroon Tide’s winning season is a tribute to the talent, tenacity, and hard work of the players, the leadership of Head Coach Ronald Mankins and his staff, and the support of the Galax High School community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Galax High School baseball team hereby be commended on winning the 2012 Virginia High School League Group A, Division 1 championship; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Ronald Mankins, head coach of the Galax High School baseball team, as an expression of the House of Delegates’ congratulations for the team’s outstanding season and championship performance.
