HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 83
Celebrating the life of Landon White Trigg.

 

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, January 11, 2013

 

WHEREAS, Landon White Trigg, a distinguished business leader who made many invaluable contributions to the welfare of others around the world through his civic and military service, died on June 11, 2012; and

WHEREAS, after attending St. Christopher’s School and Episcopal High School, Landon Trigg enlisted in the United States Navy, traveled to the South Pacific in defense of his country during World War II aboard the USS Amsterdam and continued his military service after the war as a member of the United States Air Force and Virginia Air National Guard; and

WHEREAS, Landon Trigg attended Washington and Lee University before returning to his hometown of Richmond and embarking on an exemplary career in insurance at Davenport Insurance Company, which later became Marsh and McLennan, Inc.; and

WHEREAS, an admired leader in the company and industry, Landon Trigg rose through the ranks, eventually serving as senior vice president and head of Virginia operations for the company at the time of his retirement; and

WHEREAS, Landon Trigg launched a second career during his retirement as a coordinator of group travel for Dynasty World Travel of Virginia, Inc., and Ambassador Travel & Tours, Inc., and was a founding partner of the Northern Neck community of Bon Harbors; and

WHEREAS, committed to the well-being of his fellow residents, Landon Trigg generously gave of his time and talents to the Boy Scouts of America and as president of the Mental Health Association of Richmond, Grace House, Richmond Area Community Council, and Richmond Area Psychiatric Clinic; and

WHEREAS, Landon Trigg also served on the boards of area companies as vice rector of Virginia State University, on the Richmond-Petersburg Turnpike Authority, and as chair of the Republican Party of Richmond Executive Committee; and

WHEREAS, a member of St. James Episcopal Church, Landon Trigg held the positions of vestryman and senior warden and provided valuable guidance on search committees for new rectors and the diocesan Bishop of Virginia; and

WHEREAS, countless children around the world have grown into valuable and productive citizens of their countries as a result of the visionary leadership of Landon Trigg, who served as chairman of the board of Christian Children’s Fund, now known as ChildFund International; and

WHEREAS, passionate about the importance of providing all children the opportunity to grow and develop to the best of their abilities, Landon Trigg worked with other board members, organizational leaders, and committed volunteers to reach out to millions of children around the world; and

WHEREAS, a man of remarkable compassion and integrity, Landon Trigg leaves behind an extraordinary legacy of service and will be greatly missed by his wife of 57 years, Mary; children, Mary, William, Susan, and Edward, and their families; other family members and friends; and those whose lives he touched; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of a respected business leader, dedicated community leader, strong advocate for those in need, and outstanding Virginian, Landon White Trigg; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Landon White Trigg as an expression of the House of Delegates’ respect for his memory.
