HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 237
Celebrating the life of Dorothy M. Riddick.

 

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, February 23, 2013

 

WHEREAS, Dorothy M. Riddick, a caring volunteer and beloved, lifelong member of the Norfolk community, died on April 5, 2012; and

WHEREAS, Dorothy Riddick, affectionately known as Dee Dee, graduated from Booker T. Washington High School; she went on to become a dedicated employee of the Norfolk Navy Exchange for 24 years; and

WHEREAS, passionate about serving and helping others, Dorothy Riddick was a selfless and tireless volunteer; she provided Christmas gifts to children of incarcerated parents and to senior citizens in nursing homes, generously provided supplies to area schools, and assisted with many other community outreach events; and

WHEREAS, Dorothy Riddick was a devoted member of many civic and service organizations; she won several awards, including the Solid Rock Award and the Unsung Hero Community Service Award, for her extensive work to better the lives of her fellow Norfolk residents; and

WHEREAS, Dorothy Riddick was renowned for her skills as a fundraiser in the community; she was known to be able to sell over 100 tickets for a charitable event with no assistance; and

WHEREAS, Dorothy Riddick enjoyed faith and fellowship with the community as a lifetime member of Mount Gilead Missionary Baptist Church in Norfolk; she loyally served donuts and beverages to the members of the congregation every Sunday for over 25 years; and

WHEREAS, predeceased by her husband, James, Dorothy Riddick will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by her children, Oza, Vassie, Paulette, and Allen, and their families; and many other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Dorothy M. Riddick, a devoted community servant and a pillar of the Norfolk community; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Dorothy M. Riddick as an expression of the House of Delegates’ respect for her memory.
