HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 236 Offered February 21, 2013 Celebrating the life of Hurley Merritt Holloway. ---------- Patron-- Hester ---------- Unanimous consent to introduce ----------

WHEREAS, Hurley Merritt Holloway, a hardworking public servant and a respected member of the Norfolk community, died on November 7, 2011; and

WHEREAS, a native of Norfolk, Hurley Holloway attended Booker T. Washington High School, then proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army in World War II; and

WHEREAS, after his honorable discharge, Hurley Holloway continued his education at Wilberforce University, Norfolk State University, and Hampton University; displaying dedication to his family, he returned home in the midst of his education to steward the family business; and

WHEREAS, Hurley Holloway later began a long, successful career with the United States Postal Service; he became the supervisor of the mailing division and retired after 32 years of loyal service to the community; and

WHEREAS, an active member of many civic organizations and clubs, Hurley Holloway generously donated his time to better the lives of his fellow Norfolk residents; he enjoyed faith and fellowship with the community as a longtime member of Grace Episcopal Church; and

WHEREAS, a devoted family man, Hurley Holloway will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of 58 years, Shirley; children, Vickie and Jay, and their families; and many other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Hurley Merritt Holloway, a devoted public servant and an active member of the Norfolk community; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Hurley Merritt Holloway as an expression of the House of Delegates’ respect for his memory.
