Commending Gabriella Miller.

WHEREAS, Gabriella Miller, a fourth-grader at Loudoun Country Day School in Leesburg, has demonstrated great initiative and thoughtfulness to those in need; and

WHEREAS, a vibrant and caring young lady, Gabriella Miller helped collect more than 400 pounds of food for a local food bank and also grew out her hair in order to donate it to Locks of Love, a nonprofit organization that helps disadvantaged children facing long-term medical hair loss; and

WHEREAS, after her first hair donation, Gabriella Miller decided to donate again, despite having been diagnosed with an inoperable tumor on her brain stem; and

WHEREAS, Gabriella Miller qualified for a wish from the Make-A-Wish Foundation and submitted a request for a trip to Paris with her family once she completes radiation and chemotherapy treatment; and

WHEREAS, when Gabriella Miller’s mother saw a newspaper advertisement from Macy’s stating that the company would donate $1 to the Make-A-Wish Foundation for every letter to Santa it received, Gabriella Miller decided to give back; and

WHEREAS, Gabriella Miller set a goal of contributing 10,000 letters and worked with her family members, friends, school, local businesses and organizations, churches, and synagogues to collect the letters; and

WHEREAS, Gabriella Miller’s campaign quickly went viral and the letters began to pour in as people heard about her inspiring mission to help the organization helping her; and

WHEREAS, on December 23, 2012, Gabriella Miller delivered an astonishing 240,983 letters to Macy’s; the company, touched by her selfless generosity, donated an additional $25,000 to the Make-A-Wish Foundation in her name; and

WHEREAS, the money raised by Gabriella Miller for the Make-A-Wish Foundation will enable the organization to meet the wishes of 36 other children; and

WHEREAS, Gabriella Miller has demonstrated great fortitude, strength, and compassion in reaching out to help others; and

WHEREAS, Gabriella Miller has inspired the entire Loudoun Country Day School community and the residents of Loudoun County and the Northern Virginia Region; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Gabriella Miller hereby be commended for her work to help those in need; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Gabriella Miller as an expression of the House of Delegates’ admiration for her courageous spirit and dedication to serving others.
