HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 223 Celebrating the life of Betty Jane Varner.

 

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, February 22, 2013

 

WHEREAS, Betty Jane Varner, a respected community leader in Prince William County, died on February 14, 2013; and

WHEREAS, a native of West Virginia, Betty Varner moved to the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area after high school; she married her beloved husband, Darrell, in 1964; and

WHEREAS, a caring advocate for women’s issues, Betty Varner built community spirit and donated her time as a member of the Red Hat Society and the Bel Air Woman’s Club (BAWC); she promoted the importance of education as the co-chair of the BAWC Educational Department; and

WHEREAS, as a strong supporter of Project Mend-a-House, she bettered the lives of her fellow residents by generously helping with upgrades and repairs to homes; she also helped Prince William County better serve the community as a member of the Persons with Disabilities Board; and

WHEREAS, Betty Varner was a member of the Prince William County and Neabsco Democratic Committees and was active in the community in many other capacities, including as a judge of the Dale City Fourth of July parade; and

WHEREAS, sitting on the membership committee of the Dale City Civic Association, Betty Varner inspired other local residents to become active members of society; and

WHEREAS, Betty Varner enjoyed faith and fellowship with the community as a lifelong member of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church in Dale City; and

WHEREAS, Betty Varner will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by her husband of 49 years, Darrell; children, Lori and Christopher, and their families; and many other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Betty Jane Varner, a pillar of the Prince William County community; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Betty Jane Varner as an expression of the House of Delegates’ respect for her memory.
