13105359DWHEREAS, Colin Powell Elementary School, an outstanding public school in Centreville, celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2013; and
WHEREAS, named for Colin L. Powell, a retired four-star general and former United States Secretary of State, Colin Powell Elementary School opened on September 2, 2003, with over 600 students in kindergarten through sixth grade; and
WHEREAS, Colin Powell Elementary School has grown substantially over the past decade and now serves over 1,000 students in the Centreville area; and
WHEREAS, the diverse student body at Colin Powell Elementary School includes children of many different nationalities, representing dozens of languages; the school greatly values the importance of multiculturalism in helping children learn and grow; and
WHEREAS, Colin Powell Elementary School has created a secure environment that respects and celebrates diversity, while still providing all students with a comprehensive academic experience; and
WHEREAS, the faculty and administration of Colin Powell Elementary School encourage academic and social excellence, ensuring that students are prepared for the next level of education and grow to become responsible, productive members of society; and
WHEREAS, with a fully accredited curriculum and a wide variety of extracurricular programs and professional development activities, Colin Powell Elementary School provides the future leaders of the Commonwealth with the tools and talents to achieve greatness; and
WHEREAS, the members of the Colin Powell Parent-Teacher Association and the Centreville community have contributed greatly to the success of Colin Powell Elementary School, volunteering countless hours to help with activities, programs, and fundraising events; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Colin Powell Elementary School hereby be commended for its service to the community on the occasion of its 10th anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Linda Clifford, the principal of Colin Powell Elementary School, as an expression of the House of Delegates’ admiration for the school’s commitment to educating and inspiring the youth of Centreville.
