Commending the Korean American Foundation of the United States of America on the occasion of the 110th anniversary of Korean immigration to the United States.

WHEREAS, on January 13, 1903, the first Korean immigrants arrived in the United States; these 102 pioneers led the way for thousands more individuals to proudly become United States citizens; and

WHEREAS, Korean Americans have made countless contributions to American culture and society, adding new customs, religious beliefs, cuisine, and art and language to the American melting pot; and

WHEREAS, serving their communities in a variety of capacities in different careers, professions, and civic organizations throughout the country, Korean Americans have become an invaluable part of the United States; and

WHEREAS, in 2005 the United States Congress dedicated January 13 of every year as Korean American Day to commemorate Korean Americans’ greatly valued contributions to the nation; and

WHEREAS, in 2007 the Virginia General Assembly designated January 13 of every year as Korean American Day; and

WHEREAS, the Korean American Foundation of the United States of America’s First General Meeting of its 8th national president takes place on March 22, 2013, in Washington, D.C., and March 23, 2013, in Tysons Corner; the historic meeting brings together Korean American leaders from around the country; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Korean American Foundation of the United States of America hereby be commended on the occasion of the 110th anniversary of Korean immigration to the United States; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Korean American Foundation of the United States of America as an expression of the House of Delegates’ gratitude for Korean Americans’ contributions to the Commonwealth and to the United States.
