2013 SESSION
13105334DWHEREAS, the Hidden Valley High School boys’ swim and dive team won its fourth straight title in the 200-yard medley relay event and the overall team title at the Virginia High School League Group AA and A state championship meet in February 2013; and
WHEREAS, in the opening race of the meet, a team of Hidden Valley Titans—Will Moles, Ben Schmidt, Peter D’Ortenzio, and Jacob Gibbs—sought to defend their title in the 200-yard medley relay event; Jacob Gibbs swam the anchor leg to give the team a dramatic victory by less than one second; and
WHEREAS, Jacob Gibbs also won the 100-yard freestyle race and came in second in the 50-yard freestyle race; later in the day, Cameron Vaughn joined Jacob Gibbs, Will Moles, and Peter D’Ortenzio to win the 400-yard freestyle relay event; and
WHEREAS, the combined efforts of each swimmer earned the Hidden Valley High School boys’ swim and dive team a winning total score of 195; throughout the tournament, the team displayed exceptional determination and an unerring faith in one another’s abilities; and
WHEREAS, the Hidden Valley Titans are ably led by head coach Sheri Vaughn, who is retiring in 2013 after 11 seasons; and
WHEREAS, the team’s victory is a tribute to the hard work of the players, the leadership of the coaching staff, and the support of the students, administration, and fans of Hidden Valley High School; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Hidden Valley High School boys’ swim and dive team hereby be commended on winning its fourth straight title in the 200-yard medley relay event and the overall team title at the Virginia High School League Group AA and A state championship meet; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Sheri Vaughn, head coach of the Hidden Valley High School boys’ swim and dive team, as an expression of the House of Delegates’ admiration for the team’s continued success and best wishes on future endeavors.
