HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 204
Commending the Vedic Temple of Virginia.

 

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, February 21, 2013

 

WHEREAS, the Vedic Temple of Virginia, located in Sterling, brings together Asian Indian customs and heritage with traditional American values of community and volunteerism; and

WHEREAS, the Vedic Temple of Virginia, the first South Indian Temple in Northern Virginia, was established in 2011 and today has over 1,000 faithful members; and

WHEREAS, the Vedic Temple of Virginia serves as a spiritual resource for the local Hindu community, helps preserve the rich culture and tradition of South India through children’s education, and represents the Hindu community in interfaith settings and at community events; and

WHEREAS, the Vedic Temple of Virginia holds spiritual services throughout the week, adult and children’s programs, and a host of cultural activities, including vocal and instrumental performances and classical dances; and

WHEREAS, the Vedic Temple of Virginia also has a large, multipurpose hall that serves as a library and provides a location for classes and family celebrations; and

WHEREAS, the Vedic Temple of Virginia sponsors a number of religious, spiritual, charitable, educational, social, and cultural activities for the benefit of the greater Northern Virginia community; and

WHEREAS, since its establishment, the Vedic Temple of Virginia has made many contributions to the local Hindu population and the larger community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Vedic Temple of Virginia hereby be commended for its work to preserve the rich traditions and cultures of Asian Indians while serving the Northern Virginia community; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Vedic Temple of Virginia as an expression of the House of Delegates’ admiration and respect for the temple’s contributions to Northern Virginia.
