Commending the Virginia Tamil Academy.

WHEREAS, the Virginia Tamil Academy has proudly taught the Tamil language, one of the longest surviving classical languages in the world, to members of the Northern Virginia community for more than a decade; and

WHEREAS, the Tamil language, which has existed for more than 2,000 years, continues to be used in contemporary India and in countries around the world by the Tamil people; and

WHEREAS, the Virginia Tamil Academy, a volunteer-based, secular, nonprofit organization, currently has 170 registered students and 50 volunteers; and

WHEREAS, through the Virginia Tamil Academy’s hard work, students across Northern Virginia are being introduced to the Tamil culture, literature, and language; and

WHEREAS, the Virginia Tamil Academy organizes community social and educational events to highlight the Tamil culture; and

WHEREAS, the Virginia Tamil Academy utilizes democratic ideals to help promote decision making and transparency among the organization; and

WHEREAS, the Virginia Tamil Academy also has a Tamil Virtual Academy to assist students of the language who cannot attend the classes in person; and

WHEREAS, the Virginia Tamil Academy provides students with the opportunity to make new friends, learn about the Tamil culture and language, and build leadership and team-building skills; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Virginia Tamil Academy hereby be commended for its commitment to preserving an ancient, classical language; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Virginia Tamil Academy as an expression of the House of Delegates’ admiration for the Academy’s dedication to its students.
