HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 200
Commending the Greater Washington Telugu Cultural Sangam.

 

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, February 21, 2013

 

WHEREAS, the Greater Washington Telugu Cultural Sangam was founded in 1974 to bring together Telugu-speaking people and raise awareness of the unique and vibrant Telugu culture; and

WHEREAS, the rich Telugu culture traces its roots to the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh; and

WHEREAS, many individuals in the greater Washington area that share the Telugu language and heritage have come together through the Greater Washington Telugu Cultural Sangam; and

WHEREAS, the Greater Washington Telugu Cultural Sangam has played an enormously positive role in the greater Washington community, helping families in need as well as celebrating traditional cultural festivals; and

WHEREAS, the Greater Washington Telugu Cultural Sangam is one of only 10 Telugu associations across the United States; and

WHEREAS, the Greater Washington Telugu Cultural Sangam has preserved Telugu traditions and heritage while also playing an integral role in the community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Greater Washington Telugu Cultural Sangam hereby be commended for its work to raise awareness of the Telugu culture; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Greater Washington Telugu Cultural Sangam as an expression of the House of Delegates’ admiration for the organization’s commitment to serving others and sharing the Telugu culture.
