WHEREAS, Pat Boone, an American singer, writer, and actor, has had an extremely successful career and built an ongoing legacy of kindness and service through his philanthropic efforts and involvement; and
WHEREAS, Pat Boone is one of the most popular American musicians of all time, having sold over 45 million albums; and
WHEREAS, Pat Boone still holds a Billboard record for 220 consecutive weeks with one or more songs on the charts; and
WHEREAS, a pioneer in the music industry, Pat Boone inspired many popular music artists, including Elvis Presley; and
WHEREAS, Pat Boone has appeared in more than 12 Hollywood movies and hosted the popular Pat Boone Chevy Showroom television series; and
WHEREAS, Pat Boone is a best-selling author for his book Twixt Twelve and Twenty, a book of advice for teenagers; and
WHEREAS, known for his philanthropy, Pat Boone has helped set the foundation for numerous outreach organizations, including GOD TV to aid in community development in East Africa; and
WHEREAS, Pat Boone and his wife, Shirley, helped to found Mercy Corps, a global humanitarian organization that works to alleviate suffering, poverty, and oppression; and
WHEREAS, Pat Boone has hosted the annual Pat Boone Golf Tournament since 1977 to benefit the Bethel Bible Village, a faith-based home for families in crisis; and
WHEREAS, Pat Boone has lent his time and talents to many charitable organizations, including as the national spokesman for the March of Dimes and entertainment chair for the national Easter Seals telethon; and
WHEREAS, Pat Boone has played an instrumental role in the campaigns of many Republican candidates, including the campaign of President Ronald Reagan; and
WHEREAS, Pat Boone received the lifetime achievement award at the 38th annual Conservative Political Action Conference; and
WHEREAS, Pat Boone plays a pivotal role as the national spokesman for the senior advocacy group, the 60 Plus Association; and
WHEREAS, Pat Boone is a Christian ambassador to Israel, leading many tours of the country for the Christian Broadcasting Network; and
WHEREAS, Pat Boone possesses an Israel Cultural Award, the country’s highest award for a non-native; and
WHEREAS, Pat Boone attended the prestigious Columbia University and graduated magna cum laude in 1958; and
WHEREAS, Pat Boone has been married to his wife, Shirley, for more than 55 years, and they have four children and many grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, Pat Boone has had a long and storied career as a singer, actor, television host and pitchman, television station owner, producer, songwriter, author, motivational speaker, radio personality, record company head, and sports team owner; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Pat Boone hereby be commended for his ongoing legacy to the world of multimedia and his exceptional record of philanthropic service; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Pat Boone as an expression of the House of Delegates’ respect for his lasting influence on the music industry and hard work to better the lives of others throughout the country and the world.
