HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 169 Offered February 13, 2013 Commending ikPunjabi. ---------- Patron-- Ramadan ----------

WHEREAS, ikPunjabi, which means “one Punjabi,” helps facilitate and promote the culture, heritage, and traditions of the Punjabi people in the Northern Virginia area; and

WHEREAS, the Punjabi people have a rich cultural heritage that spans thousands of years and have deep passions for sharing, caring, and daring; and

WHEREAS, ikPunjabi brings together the Punjabi community to strengthen the sense of community, promote the Punjabi culture, and raise the awareness of the Punjabi culture and people in the community; and

WHEREAS, through its philanthropic efforts, ikPunjabi annually helps thousands of people in the community; and

WHEREAS, in 2012 ikPunjabi raised funds for the Special Olympics Virginia and formed a 25-member team to participate in the Special Olympics Dulles Day Plane Pull; and

WHEREAS, the ikPunjabi team competed against other teams to see who could pull a 164,000-pound Airbus aircraft 12 feet in the fastest time; and

WHEREAS, ikPunjabi uses a variety of media to reach Punjabi individuals in the Northern Virginia area; and

WHEREAS, members of ikPunjabi make many contributions as they work in a variety of professions and businesses and serve the community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That ikPunjabi hereby be commended for its community service efforts; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to ikPunjabi as an expression of the House of Delegates’ admiration for the organization’s commitment to sharing the Punjabi culture and contributions to those in need.
