Commending Michael Schiavo.

WHEREAS, Michael Schiavo, a sophomore at Deep Run High School in Glen Allen, serves as a source of inspiration to others with his generous heart, commitment to serving others, and positive attitude; and

WHEREAS, a native of Richmond, Michael Schiavo, the son of Chris and Susan Schiavo, has a sister, Lauren, who is a student at James Madison University; and

WHEREAS, born with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, Michael Schiavo draws upon his deep faith to face the disease’s challenges with a resilient spirit; and

WHEREAS, an intelligent and motivated young man with a great sense of humor, Michael Schiavo is a straight-A student at Deep Run High School, where he enjoys attending school events; and

WHEREAS, an active member on the Deep Run High School Marathon Dance committee, Michael Schiavo worked with other students to ensure the success of the school’s marathon dance, which raised more than $250,000 to benefit local nonprofit organizations in 2012; and

WHEREAS, with the dream of one day pastoring his own church, Michael Schiavo nurtures his faith at Christ Church Episcopal, where he participates in the church’s youth group and Confirmation program and attended a Chrysalis retreat; and

WHEREAS, Michael Schiavo has served lunch and collected and distributed Bibles and clothing for those in need and has a special place in his heart for the homeless; and

WHEREAS, in his free time, Michael Schiavo enjoys video games, music, baseball, football, and hanging out with friends; and

WHEREAS, an outstanding young man, Michael Schiavo serves as an inspirational role model to all and has touched the lives of countless individuals; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Michael Schiavo hereby be commended for his indomitable spirit and many contributions to his family, friends, school, and community; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Michael Schiavo as an expression of the House of Delegates’ admiration for his positive example and service to the community and best wishes in all of his endeavors.
