WHEREAS, Tucker Carrington Watkins IV of Randolph, a Vietnam War veteran who took an active role in civic and political affairs, died on October 6, 2012; and
WHEREAS, a native of Halifax County, Tucker Watkins attended Virginia Military Institute and proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, earning a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star; and
WHEREAS, Tucker Watkins continued to support his fellow veterans throughout his life with involvement in various veterans’ organizations; and
WHEREAS, an active member of the community, Tucker Watkins participated in various service initiatives through his membership in the Jaycees and enjoyed fellowship and worship at First Presbyterian Church; and
WHEREAS, Tucker Watkins was a staunch supporter of the Republican Party, serving as the chair of the 5th District Republican Party and field director for United States Senator George F. Allen in Southside Virginia; and
WHEREAS, Tucker Watkins also served as the campaign manager for Virgil H. Goode, Jr., and attended several national political conventions; and
WHEREAS, a hardworking member of the Virginia Tobacco Indemnification and Community Revitalization Commission, Tucker Watkins worked diligently to advance the commission’s mission; and
WHEREAS, a man who firmly held to his convictions, Tucker Watkins will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by many loving family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of a respected citizen of the Commonwealth, Tucker Carrington Watkins IV; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Tucker Carrington Watkins IV as an expression of the House of Delegates’ respect for his memory.
