HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 138
Commending Kurtis Steck.

 

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, January 25, 2013

 

WHEREAS, Kurtis Steck, a senior at Lafayette High School in James City County, was named the 2012 boys’ cross country Runner of the Year by The Daily Press; and

WHEREAS, Kurtis Steck won the Virginia High School League (VHSL) Region I meet by 17 seconds, posting a time of 16:21.8; and

WHEREAS, in his fourth consecutive appearance at the VHSL Group AA state cross country meet, Kurtis Steck stayed with the lead group for the first mile and finished the event in fifth place; and

WHEREAS, Kurtis Steck’s time of 15:59.00 was the best of any Bay Rivers District runner in the VHSL Group AA state meet; and

WHEREAS, a dedicated teammate, Kurtis Steck helped propel his team to second place in the VHSL Group AA state meet; it was the first time that Lafayette High School had reached second place in a state cross country meet since 1999; and

WHEREAS, competing throughout the winter, Kurtis Steck is one of the best indoor distance runners in the area, holding a personal best of 4:29.20 in the 1,600 meter event; he returns to outdoor track events in the spring; and

WHEREAS, enjoying the varied environments of cross country courses and the intensity of track events, Kurtis Steck plans to continue running cross country and track as a student at The College of William and Mary in the fall of 2013; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Kurtis Steck hereby be commended on being named the 2012 boys’ cross country Runner of the Year by The Daily Press; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Kurtis Steck as an expression of the House of Delegates’ admiration for his achievements and best wishes for continued success.
