HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 137 Offered January 21, 2013 Commending Tara Zimak. ---------- Patron-- Pogge ----------

WHEREAS, Tara Zimak, a junior at James Madison University, will run in the Anthem Shamrock Half Marathon on March 17, 2013, to raise money for orphans; and

WHEREAS, after her junior year at Jamestown High School in 2009, Tara Zimak joined a week-long mission trip to Nicaragua with the Williamsburg Community Chapel; and

WHEREAS, Tara Zimak and the group volunteered at an orphanage, taking the children to the movies and on other trips; and

WHEREAS, deeply touched by the experience, Tara Zimak returned to Nicaragua for another mission trip and developed a passion for work with orphaned children in the country; and

WHEREAS, attending James Madison University in 2010, Tara Zimak joined the school’s Nicaraguan Orphan Fund (NOF), a service-oriented organization that donates time and raises awareness for poverty in Nicaragua; and

WHEREAS, the NOF passes donations on to ORPHANetwork, a nonprofit that funds housing initiatives and food distribution centers in Nicaragua; and

WHEREAS, Tara Zimak became the vice president of the NOF as a sophomore and is currently the president of the organization; with between 30 and 40 members, the group intends to raise $20,000 this year; and

WHEREAS, a former field hockey player and an enthusiastic runner, Tara Zimak will combine her passions to run in the Anthem Shamrock Half Marathon in Virginia Beach; and

WHEREAS, planning to run with friends and family as part of a team, Tara Zimak has already raised several hundred dollars and hopes to raise $1,000 for the NOF; and

WHEREAS, Tara Zimak has displayed initiative, compassion, and dedication in her mission to help others; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Tara Zimak hereby be commended for her work to raise money for orphans by running in the Anthem Shamrock Half Marathon; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Tara Zimak as an expression of the House of Delegates’ admiration for her generosity and concern for the well-being of others.
