2013 SESSION
13103746DWHEREAS, the education of the rising generation is one of the foremost of the sacred obligations of every community; and
WHEREAS, our communities, for the most part, entrust this obligation to our public schools; and
WHEREAS, the responsibilities for administrating our schools are both numerous and demanding; and
WHEREAS, the execution of the responsibilities of administration in any public school division is so challenging that a fairly moderate tenure for many school officials is perhaps inevitable; and
WHEREAS, the people of Powhatan have for an entire generation entrusted the administration of our schools to Dr. Margaret S. Meara; and
WHEREAS, as Superintendent of Powhatan County Schools, Dr. Margaret S. Meara has responded with aplomb as well as demonstrable success, prompting a former School Board member and civic leader to observe, “Dr. Meara is a remarkable leader. Our school system . . . has become one of the finest divisions in Virginia. [Dr. Meara] has truly made Powhatan a better place to live and raise a family”; and
WHEREAS, with the conclusion of the 2012 - 2013 academic year, Dr. Margaret S. Meara will retire from a career that has included 23 years as Superintendent of Schools for Powhatan County; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the House voice its congratulations to Dr. Margaret S. Meara of Powhatan, Virginia; and, therefore, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Dr. Margaret S. Meara in gratitude for her distinguished service on behalf of the education of the children of Powhatan County.
