WHEREAS, Chris Nalley, a shining example of the importance and successfulness of organ transplantation, is a double-lung recipient and active and valued member of the community and advocate for all those currently in need of organ, eye, and tissue donation; and

WHEREAS, Chris Nalley was born with cystic fibrosis and received his double-lung transplant at age 26 on July 6, 2006, at the University of Virginia; and

WHEREAS, Chris Nalley, having become active in sports and showing how transplant recipients lead full and healthy lives, ran the 2008 Richmond Marathon with his pulmonologist and the NTELOS 8K with his donor mom; and

WHEREAS, Chris Nalley is an active volunteer and dedicated council member and transplant recipient representative for Donate Life Virginia; and

WHEREAS, Chris Nalley was a repeated and decorated competitor in the United States Transplant Games and instrumental in the planning for the Virginia Transplant Games held in 2011; and

WHEREAS, Chris Nalley has been featured as a face of transplantation in Central Virginia’s “You Have the Power to Donate” campaign; and

WHEREAS, on a regular basis, Chris Nalley speaks to college students, high schools, nursing schools, hospital-based “kids camps,” and other groups locally and across the region, telling his story and educating the public on the importance of becoming a registered organ, eye, and tissue donor; and

WHEREAS, Chris Nalley was recognized as one of the “2012 Top 40 Under 40” in Style Weekly for his advocacy work surrounding organ donation awareness; and

WHEREAS, the success of Chris Nalley’s transplant and his eagerness to share his story, has led to features in the Richmond Times-Dispatch, UVA Health System’s website, NBC 12’s coverage of Facebook’s “I Am an Organ Donor” status, and other organ donation awareness campaigns and, in addition, led to increased registration, awareness, and debunking of myths that still surround organ donation; and

WHEREAS, Chris Nalley is and will continue to be a shining example of how one person can make a difference, set an example of giving back, and positively affect the lives of others who may be at their most vulnerable state; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Chris Nalley hereby be commended and congratulated on his continued presence in organ donation awareness efforts and representation of the benefits of organ donation; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Chris Nalley as an expression of the House of Delegates’ appreciation for his continued efforts to increase awareness of organ donation throughout the Commonwealth.
