HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 118
Celebrating the life of Gail Ann Goodridge.

 

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, January 11, 2013

 

WHEREAS, Gail Ann Goodridge, an Arlington resident and an advocate for health concerns in developing countries, died on June 18, 2012; and

WHEREAS, originally from Detroit, Gail Goodridge earned a bachelor’s degree from Arizona State University and a master’s degree from the University of Houston; and

WHEREAS, Gail Goodridge worked at the Washington, D.C., branch of FHI 360, a nonprofit international development organization, for 20 years; and

WHEREAS, in addition to managing the HIV/AIDS and women’s health programs at FHI 360, Gail Goodridge also traveled to Nairobi, Kenya, to lead a program on HIV/AIDS in East and Central Africa; and

WHEREAS, previously working for the United States Agency for International Development, Gail Goodridge contributed to projects on women’s health and independence, micro-loans, and population studies; and

WHEREAS, Gail Goodridge lent her time and expertise to a variety of volunteer organizations, including the Virginia Interfaith Center for Public Policy, Virginians Organized for Interfaith Community Engagement, and Social Action Linking Together; and

WHEREAS, an active member of Saint Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, Gail Goodridge organized church outreach programs in Africa, Haiti, and the Dominican Republic; and

WHEREAS, predeceased by her husband of 18 years, Glyne, Gail Goodridge is survived by her stepdaughters, Elizabeth, Angela, Renata, and Jennifer, and their families; her mother, Dolores; and many other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Gail Ann Goodridge, a passionate humanitarian; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Gail Ann Goodridge as an expression of the House of Delegates’ respect for her memory.
