Commending the Bridging Communities Regional Career and Technical Center.

WHEREAS, the Bridging Communities Regional Career and Technical Center, which serves the students of Charles City, King and Queen, King William, Middlesex, and New Kent Counties, celebrated its grand opening in September 2012; and

WHEREAS, efforts to create a regional career and technical center began in 2003 when members of the King William Business Association and the King William High School Career and Technical Education Advisory Council met; and

WHEREAS, a steering committee was eventually formed with members from the school systems and business community working together to increase support for the establishment of career and technical education programs that would benefit both rural students and adults; and

WHEREAS, in 2005 the Bridging Communities Foundation was formed and efforts continued in collaboration with the Virginia Department of Education as Rappahannock Community College donated land and offered dual-enrollment opportunities; and

WHEREAS, in October 2011, the New Kent County Board of Supervisors approved the renovation of the back wing of its historic high school as the location for the Bridging Communities Regional Career and Technical Center; and

WHEREAS, the Bridging Communities Regional Career and Technical Center welcomed area residents to an open house on October 14, 2012, with the Virginia Deputy Secretary of Education, Javaid Siddiqi, giving the keynote address; and

WHEREAS, board of control members Jim Goforth, Charlie Gordon, Dr. Gail Hardinge, Martha Harris, Brenda Lee, Kathy Morrison, Dr. Larkin Phillips, and Dr. Robert Richardson have provided wise insight and guidance in support of the Bridging Communities Regional Career and Technical Center; and

WHEREAS, today, students from Charles City, King and Queen, King William, Middlesex, and New Kent Counties have the opportunity to receive outstanding career and technical education as a result of the cooperative efforts of local school systems, school board members, supervisors, and business partners; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Bridging Communities Regional Career and Technical Center hereby be commended on the occasion of its grand opening; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Bridging Communities Regional Career and Technical Center as an expression of the House of Delegates’ congratulations and admiration for the Center’s commitment to providing career and technical educational opportunities.
