2013 SESSION
WHEREAS, Suzanne M. Sherman, an exemplary second-grade teacher at Cool Spring Primary School in King William County, was selected as the 2013 Region III Teacher of the Year; and
WHEREAS, the Regional Teacher of the Year program recognizes outstanding school teachers from the eight superintendents’ regions of Virginia who represent the best in teaching in the Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, teachers from Caroline, Colonial Beach, Essex, Fredericksburg, Gloucester, King and Queen, King George, Lancaster, Mathews, Middlesex, Northumberland, Richmond County, Spotsylvania, Stafford, West Point, and Westmoreland school divisions were nominated for consideration for the Region III Teacher of the Year award; and
WHEREAS, a panel composed of classroom teachers, representatives of professional and educational associations and the business community, and the 2012 Virginia Teacher of the Year reviewed portfolios submitted by the candidates to the Virginia Department of Education; and
WHEREAS, Suzanne “Suzi” Sherman, who is in her seventh year of teaching at Cool Spring Primary School, exemplifies the best qualities of an educator, creating a nurturing, respectful environment in which her students thrive; and
WHEREAS, an outstanding role model, Suzi Sherman motivates her students to achieve their best while also encouraging fellow teachers with her enthusiasm, creativity, and knowledge; and
WHEREAS, Suzi Sherman serves on the school’s leadership committee, the superintendent’s advisory committee, and the gifted and talented education committee, and as the second-grade chairperson and Indian Education After-School Program Coordinator; and
WHEREAS, beloved by her students and respected by parents, fellow teachers, and administrators, Suzi Sherman was recognized as Cool Spring Primary School’s “Apple of My Eye” in 2008 and 2011; and
WHEREAS, a passionate advocate for the young people of King William County, Suzi Sherman exemplifies the role that talented and compassionate educators can play in a child’s life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Suzanne M. Sherman hereby be commended on her well-deserved selection as the 2013 Region III Teacher of the Year; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Suzanne M. Sherman as an expression of the House of Delegates’ congratulations and appreciation for her commitment to the young people of King William County.
