Commending New Branch Baptist Church.

WHEREAS, in November 2012, New Branch Baptist Church celebrated 100 years of worship with the Ivor community; and

WHEREAS, New Branch Baptist Church traces its heritage to a humble beginning as a small frame building, formerly known as the Ivor Baptist Church, purchased for only $1,250; and

WHEREAS, over the years, New Branch Baptist Church underwent renovations to add additional rooms and a brick exterior; and

WHEREAS, under current leadership, New Branch Baptist Church has been upgraded several times and now participates in the United Fellowship of Churches’ worship services; and

WHEREAS, many in the congregation credit the Reverend Frank Aikens, who started as a temporary preacher 26 years ago, with New Branch Baptist Church’s continued success; and

WHEREAS, New Branch Baptist Church celebrated its 100th anniversary with a formal banquet for over 200 guests, featuring statements from former pastors and music from the New Branch choir; and

WHEREAS, to honor a nearly 100-year-old member of its congregation, Isabelle Peden, New Branch Baptist Church named her the “Mother of New Branch”; and

WHEREAS, New Branch Baptist Church is one of the most active churches in the area, offering faith and fellowship every Sunday; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That New Branch Baptist Church hereby be commended on the occasion of its 100th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to New Branch Baptist Church as an expression of the House of Delegates’ congratulations on the church’s 100 years of service to the community and best wishes for the future.
