Commending John C. Jamison.

WHEREAS, John C. Jamison was honored for his many contributions to the Williamsburg community when the Board of Trustees of the Williamsburg Community Foundation established the Founder’s Award for Vision and Excellence in his name; and

WHEREAS, the Founder’s Award for Vision and Excellence in honor of John C. Jamison will be awarded periodically to a group or an individual that embodies John Jamison’s vision, leadership, and financial support of the Williamsburg Community Foundation and the greater Williamsburg community; and

WHEREAS, a graduate of Purdue University, John Jamison earned a master’s degree from the Harvard Business School and proudly served his country in the United States Navy; and

WHEREAS, John Jamison enjoyed a long and distinguished career on Wall Street as a partner with Goldman Sachs & Company before becoming dean of the Mason School of Business at The College of William and Mary; and

WHEREAS, a visionary leader, John Jamison established the Mason School of Business Evening MBA program, which has become the Flex MBA program and Executive MBA program, while also maintaining a strong focus on excellence in teaching; and

WHEREAS, a member of numerous corporate and nonprofit boards around the country, John Jamison has served the Williamsburg community in many capacities, including as president and chief executive officer of the Mariners Museum and board member of the Riverside Health System and Williamsburg Winery; and

WHEREAS, John Jamison has also provided strong support to local arts groups and organizations dedicated to helping area youth and protecting animals; and

WHEREAS, committed to the well-being of his fellow residents, John Jamison served on the board of the Williamsburg Community Foundation for its first eight years, establishing the Chairman’s Challenge when he retired to grow the Community Endowment; and

WHEREAS, John Jamison’s passionate commitment to Williamsburg residents and institutions has enhanced the quality of life for countless individuals; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend John C. Jamison for his exemplary service to the Williamsburg community on the occasion of the establishment of the Williamsburg Community Foundation’s Founder’s Award for Vision and Excellence in his name; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to John C. Jamison as an expression of the General Assembly’s congratulations and admiration for his commitment to serving the Williamsburg community.
