2013 SESSION
WHEREAS, Alfred Rose, the chief deputy of the Amherst County Sheriff’s Office, retired in 2012 after 40 years of faithful service; and
WHEREAS, on July 1, 1972, Alfred Rose joined the Amherst County Sheriff’s Office, becoming its first black deputy; and
WHEREAS, Alfred Rose served as jailer, road deputy, patrol sergeant, and chief jailer before his appointment as chief deputy on January 1, 1996; and
WHEREAS, dedicated to the safety and well-being of his fellow residents, Alfred Rose responded to a wide variety of calls during his tenure and provided strong leadership to enhance community relations; and
WHEREAS, Alfred Rose earned the respect of his colleagues and superiors with his dedication to serving the residents of Amherst County and shared a wealth of experience and expertise with new deputies; and
WHEREAS, a pioneering member of the Amherst County Sheriff’s Office, Alfred Rose made many invaluable contributions to public safety during his four decades of dedicated service; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Alfred Rose on the occasion of his retirement from the Amherst County Sheriff’s Office; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Alfred Rose as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration and gratitude for his distinguished service to the residents of Amherst County and commitment to public safety.
